Overview
A NAS (Network Attached Storage) built starting from a Raspberry Pi. The goal was to have network storage accessible from every device in the house, with automatic backups and file sharing, without spending what a commercial NAS costs.
The system uses OpenMediaVault as its management interface — a Debian-based NAS OS that turns any hardware into a storage server with a web interface. Samba handles the shares for Windows and macOS clients on the local network.
Why build it
Commercial NAS units (Synology, QNAP) cost a lot and are over-specced for home use. With a Raspberry Pi and a few drives you get the same result with hardware you already own or that costs a fraction.
